General Behavior

Members are to be in the stands as much as possible. This is for scouting and for team support. Check in with mentors and let us know where you are going to when you do need to leave. At every given moment at least one mentor should know where you are. At all times remember that you represent the team, the district, FIRST, and Caterpillar, as well as your family and your individual school. At no time other than lunch or to leave the event with the team at the end of the day should any member exit the building.

Wednesday

We will depart from VAHS at 10am. This should put us in Flagstaff at our hotel about 3pm. We will not be stopping for lunch, but we will make several stops along the way for gas, bathroom breaks and snacks. Students are welcome to bring something with them for the trip, as well. After arrival students are welcome to get in the pool. The load-in crew will be leaving about 4:30pm to go unload the trailer at the competition. This will include four students and one other mentor. They will unload and set up the pit, then head back to the hotel.

At about 6:30pm mentors will begin cooking dinner. By 7pm we should be eating. Students are welcome to eat poolside, within the dining space of the hotel, or in their rooms. 10pm is curfew.

Thursday

Breakfast is usually served beginning at 6am. We will begin loading to roll to the event at about 8am. The doors usually open to the general populace at 8:30am. This day is all about robot inspections, practice, pit scouting, and making sure robots are ready. This includes our own and anyone else that needs assistance. Pit scouting is really about networking. It is a chance for students to interact with other teams and see what their robot's capabilities are intended to be. All students aside from pit crew/drive team are to participate.

The drive team/pit crew are to be at the pit or attending official meetings. There is to be a safety captain in the pit at any time that someone is in the pit.

Provided all goes well, the team will leave together at about 4pm to return to the hotel. At about 6:30pm mentors will begin cooking dinner. By 7pm we should be eating. Students are welcome to eat poolside, within the dining space of the hotel, or in their rooms. 10pm is curfew.

Friday

Breakfast is usually served beginning at 6am. We will load to roll at about 7:40am. The doors usually open at 8am. Opening ceremonies begin at 8:30am. ALL team members will be in the stands for this, even the pit crew/drive team. Matches begin at 9am. We expect all students to be in the stands as much as possible. This is when we perform true scouting. Watch the matches and then evaluate each team on actual performance on the field. This is to include not only robot capabilities but driver performance, as well.

As we make it through the day, we should end up with about five or six matches, depending on how the randomization runs. We will be working with many different teams. Qualifications should run until about 5 or 5:30pm. At this point there will be some awards given out. We stay through this and cheer on our fellow teams. We should be rolling to the hotel by 6pm, when the pits close for the night.

By about 6:30pm mentors will begin cooking dinner. By 7pm we should be eating. Students are welcome to eat poolside, within the dining space of the hotel, or in their rooms. 10pm is curfew.

Saturday

Breakfast is usually served beginning at 7am. we will load to roll by 7:40am. The doors will open at 8am again. Opening ceremonies will again start at 8:30am, with matches starting at 9am. ALL members will once again be present for the opening ceremonies. Again, we would like to have students in the stands as much as possible. After morning quals the alliance selections will begin. Once those are complete we should be eating lunch. After lunch finals begin. If we are not part of finals we will take this opportunity to load-out. If you are not part of load-out you should be in the stands.

After finals come the Regional Awards. This is when the big-ticket awards are handed out. This runs usually right until 6pm. If we were part of finals, this is when we will do load-out with all hands. After which we will return to the hotel for the evening. We may be tasked to assist some with field breakdown before we get out. If we are we will roll back to the hotel by 8pm. Mentors will begin cooking immediately and dinner should be served within 30 minutes. Students are welcome to eat poolside, within the dining space of the hotel, or in their rooms. 10pm is curfew.

Sunday

Breakfast is usually served beginning at 7am. At 8am we will load the vehicles and check out of the hotel. Members should make sure they have everything they brought. We should be rolling by 8:15am. We will drive home at this point, stopping again only for gas, bathroom breaks and snacks. We should arrive at VAHS by 1pm. Laptops and robot batteries and the chargers should be unloaded if all has gone well. If we have work to do the entire trailer will be unloaded. Unloading takes minutes with everyone working.
